The Bakersfield City School District will induct nine people into the BCSD Hall of Fame. Inductees are former students who are notable for their professional accomplishments, and community members who have distinguished themselves by their service to the district.

Benjamin Victor, who in 2005 became the youngest artist ever to have a sculpture in the National Statuary Hall in the United States Capitol, invited the ensemble to visit his studio. He had met them at a small Friday evening gathering at the Jewish Synagogue scheduled especially for the ensemble.

Eight bronze statues created by Aberdeen artist Ben Victor are on display until Nov. 16 at the Ward Plaza Art Gallery. The Ward Plaza gallery is on the first floor of the Ward Hotel, 104 S. Main St.

Tove Hoff Bormes said she was moved to tears as she recently helped unpack 10 pieces by Aberdeen Sculptor Benjamin Victor. “We are really excited to see him get some exposure here in Sioux Falls,” said Bormes, co-owner of Rug & Relic, the 8th and Railroad Center shop showing Victor’s work starting Friday.

You’ll find something at Ben Victor’s studio you might not find at other artists’ studios. Make that someone. Namely, Victor’s 5-year-old daughter, Audrey, who sat quietly sculpting one day last week while her dad did the same, albeit on a much bigger scale. Victor’s son Caleb, 7, a first grader at C.C.Lee Elementary School, can also often be found in the studio in the basement of Northern State University’s Lincoln Hall.

He hasn’t even turned 30, but Aberdeen artist Ben Victor’s work is on display across the city, the state and even the country. The young Hub City artist isn’t only making a living doing what he loves, but making a name for himself as well.

When you enter Aberdeen, the sign greeting you says about 25,000 people live there. An organization called “Absolutely Aberdeen!” would like to see that number grow before the city updates its signs again. The group’s been working to reach that goal since it formed last year.

Nationally renowned sculptor Ben Victor of Bakersfield will unveil the culmination of three years’ work this Veterans Day. When the drape is pulled away from his oversized bronze of a female soldier Nov. 11, Victor’s three-sculpture arrangement outside the county air terminal will be complete.
