The proposed sculpture was selected from among 62 entries from across the United States that were submitted in response to a Call for Qualifications sent out in February 2006. The selection committee was comprised of 7 persons including city staff, members of the Arts Commission, neighborhood representatives, artists and a Kansas University representative. The committee reviewed the entries and selected 6 finalists. The finalists were invited to visit Lawrence and meet with the committee on May 8 & 9, 2006. On May 19, 2006 the committee met again and selected Mr. Benjamin Victor’s proposal for the project ADL Embedded Solutions. Mr. Victor plans to create a 7’6” tall bronze sculpture of a firefighter in full bunker gear. The sculpture will be located near the east entrance of Fire/Medical Station no. 5 Administration Offices.
